Board of Education Regular Public Meeting: Tuesday, September 13, 2011.

The next regular meeting of the Sunshine Coast Board of Education will be Tuesday September 12, 2011, 7:00pm, at the School Board office. Did you know that the agendas for regular public meetings are available on the Friday prior to meetings? You can find the full September agenda here. If you can’t attend the meeting, express yourself here, or via email: jscott@sd46.bc.ca

Here are a few highlights:

We have an interesting, education related presentation to start meetings off with. It’s worth coming just to watch the presentations. And, yes, you could theoretically leave right after.

This month’s presentation:

(a) Celebrating Education

(b) “One Coast, Together in Nature, Culture and Community –

J. Clark, Education and Outreach Coordinator, SCRD and K. Mahlman, Principal of Aboriginal Education, School District No. 46

Public Question Period:

This is your chance to ask the Board a question–any question–live and in person. There is another question period at the end of public meetings.

Motions to be considered:

-This motion will be requested during the meeting:

“THAT the Board of Education of School District No. 46 (Sunshine Coast) adopt the Audited Financial Statement for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011.”

The audited financial statement is included in the agenda (pgs. 24-57) and is a record of the finances in our district over the 2010/2011 year.

-There will also be a motion to receive Administrative Regualtion 6230, relating to child protection (pgs. 99-100).

-And one more proposed motion:

That School District No. 46 endorse the community plan “We Envision: One Coast Together in Nature, Culture and Community, a discussion paper.”

This motion refers to the “One Coast” community plan that will be presented to start the meeting. Additional information on this community plan is included in the agenda-pgs.3-5.

And, of course, zany motions can come up at any time throughout the meeting!

Have a look at this:

Also included is a report on the results of the initial consultation period and some possible future scenarios for the Sechelt Learning Center pgs.60-84.

Really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and kicking off a great new school year!

Hope to see you there.
