The next regular meeting of the Sunshine Coast Board of Education will be Feb. 08, 2011, 7:00pm, at the School Board office. Did you know that the agendas for regular public meetings are available on the Friday prior to meetings? You can find the full March agenda here. If you can’t attend the meeting, express yourself here, or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here are a few highlights:
We have an interesting, education related presentation to start meetings off with. It’s worth coming just to watch the presentations. And, yes, you could theoretically leave right after.
This month’s presentation:
District Therapy Services: “Who We Are, What We Do”
J. Steven, SLP; K. Harrison, PT; Melissa Berryman, OT and
C. Childers, Assistant Therapist
Motions to be considered:
Only one motion in the agenda (new motions can be made and/or amended during meetings.)
“That the board request that staff, through the Policy Committee, review
the usage of bottled water by School District No. 46 (Sunshine Coast) with the
intent of reducing or eliminating bottled water purchased by the district.”
Rationale = save money + the planet.
*Bottled water in vending machines is not purchased by the district.
Outreach Strong Start proposal (Pg. 17-23.) SD46 has applied for an Outreach Strong Start program, in order to serve our more remote communities and smaller schools.
Superintendent hiring update (Pg.25.) An update of the process. Announcement later this week!
Frances Fleming Award for Inspirational Achievement (Pg.26.) A Board initiative to recognize exceptional people involved with our schools.
